Great Granite Escape
Enjoy the fresh country air and quiet roads on this guided cycling adventure. The picture perfect rural setting gives way to unspoilt Australian bush where you may see many species of birds including cockatoos and parrots. This tour takes you from Stanthorpe to the border-towns of Wallangarra and Jennings. A reasonable level of fitness is required for this undulating 50km ride.
What you can expect
Setting off from the Stanthorpe Visitor Information Centre you cycle out of town and around the back of Storm King Dam. Here you can see water birds and people fishing along the shoreline. In the summer months it's a great spot for swimming and boating. Once at the back of the dam the terrain changes and your journey on dirt roads begins. Spot rocky outcrops, kangaroos and colourful birds along your journey through the bush before stopping for refreshments.
Further along we call at a local winery where you may wish to sample their hand made products. A picturesque ten kilometres now remains before enjoying an icy cold beer in New South Wales. Crossing the border back into Queensland for a well earned late lunch, including local wine. After lunch and maybe another glass of wine, our vehicle will transport you back to Stanthorpe.
How do I carry my wine and purchases? A very good question. Panniers are available to carry your small purchases. All other purchases will be collected for you and given to you upon return to Stanthorpe.
